Today Viki and I are joined by Shawn Gordon. This week it runs at an hour and eight minutes long.
You can find the feed for the podcast over here, or if you prefer, you can listen to the audio directly in an embedded player at thevinecast.com. There is even an subscribe by email option for those that don't use a podcatcher or rss feed reader but want to be kept up to date. And for you itunes users, of course you can use that too.
Links to everything we discuss in this episode can be found here.
I would also once again like to personally thank lauhal for her major donation a couple of weeks ago. As well as anyone who's donated any amount, large or small...we need all the help we can get at this point, and we really appreciate it.
If you enjoy the Vinecast, you can help us spread the fun by clipping this article (or the show notes article for your favourite episode) to your column, and as always, if you have any suggestions, questions, something you'd like read on the show,etc......send them right on over to me at mailbag@thevinecast.com, and if you have a particular Viner you'd like to hear on the Vinecast (or you'd like to be on the panel yourself), let us know and we'll do our best to make it happen.
Your link to thevinecast.com goes to last week's episode.
Another good one, Brad. Emailed you a donation
Does he get a Vinecast coffee mug now?
Can I get a Vinecast shotglass?
Can I get a Vinecast bra?
In that case, I would recommend matching panties too--preferably thongs. :O
You cut out the part where I beat my son on audio right?
heh. No, that's okay. I can be responsible for my actions.
And my hand still hurts. That kid's head is really hard.
I wanted to go to Walgreen's and score some Snickers, but Mom said no. What a drag...
:- /
Actually, he wanted to score a laser pointer/pen.
We went to Walgreen's today, found the pen, and I discovered that he'd already had one at some point.
"What happened to the original laser pointer/pen?" I asked.
"Um, I don't know."
"You don't know?"
Several seconds passed as we waited in line to pay.
"Well, maybe it got taken away or something," he said.
"Taken away? By whom?" I asked. I might not have been that grammatically correct.
"I don't know. A teacher or something."
A few seconds passed as I stared at him.
"A teacher took away your laser pointer/pen?"
"Yeah, I think so."
"That, my boy, sounds like a crock of @!$%#. Start 'splainin'."
Of course, by the time I got through explaining what 'splainin means, we'd purchased the new pen.
I hope it gets taken away again. Because then I can kick his ass.
I bet he pointed the laser teacher at a screen or at the teacher. Kids did that to me a lot when I was student teaching.
oh, no, the memories are coming back!
Because then I can kick his ass.
at least you're consistent with your beatings. :P
The key to good child discipline is consistency, Shawn.
:p
Hi Brad, just wondering how long this one is? I'll be listening a little later.
It didn't seem like an hour and 8 minutes...
I know! It never seems as long as it ends up.
thats what she said
*snert* I'm starting to develop a crush on Shawn. ;0
Hrm.
Listening now. My face is currently red as you all discuss my content.
My thought on my article: Usually, I think of stuff like that as I'm reading content, stew for a day or two, and then write it all out in about 10 minutes.
My goal isn't so much to present a workable, finished idea, so much as it is to get people discussing options, the issue of honesty, fairness in reporting, facts, etc. Then, we can think of what sort of tools we need, what tools might work, which tools are too much, and so on.
My hope, of course, is that the open letter then becomes an open thread, which the admins can read through, mull over, and either dismiss or roll into some other ideas they have. So many of our ideas in the past have shown up in some form or another in some new feature.
It wouldn't be a Vinecast if we didn't embarrass somebody behind their back.
Yippie!! Listening right now. Good to hear you, Shawn!
Do I need a mike? I have an iMac. At Celestina's party, I could talk, but it echoed. ;)
But I'm so dull.
Yippie!! Listening right now. Good to hear you, Shawn!
Thanks. I dislike how I sound on recording. I either sound like some tool bag kid, or I sound nasally. I also tend to have breaks in my sentences, but I spend too much time thinking about what I'm going to say instead of just saying it. I always slow down on questions asked of me...and my answers never sound as formulated as they do in my head.
lauhal, lauhal, lauhal, **coughburpsnert**, lauhal...
You talk just fine Shawn, the mike though, or maybe your sound card/settings...
Thanks for having me on. I didn't mean to stay awkwardly silent during the first few comments, I just couldn't think of anything to add that also wasn't going to be off the cuff stupidity. I enjoyed it, and would be more than happy to join you guys again in the future. Thanks again Brad and Viki
We spend all week planning our off the cuff stupidity. It's a delight when it happens by accident.
You did fine Shawn. Good episode. I particularly enjoyed the segment discussing whether this country needed a "good $20 blowjob". One small point on the warrantless wiretap business. Both the old FISA statute and the new one provided for a small window (48 hours under the '78 act and 72 hours under last summer's amedment to it) for this.
Ahem. Meta, politics, prostitution...parenting.
Will people please start arguing, either that or thinly disguised inuendo...
Will be listening next week :-)
You could always do a spin-off: "VineCast Smakdown RAW!!~!"
"I could always down a dozen shots or something before the show"
Yes. YES. If not you, then someone else--I'm certain Viki's just waiting for the chance to finally get @!$%#faced on the 'cast.
I'd like to hear more debating. I think you aimed for that when you had Bill on but instead found areas of agreement which is only natural.
Here's my suggestion - find an article that's good and meaty with good meta bits of interest to all - like Brian's or Shawn's and not only invite the author on but also one or two of those posting eloquent civil rebuttals.
What are you talking about, Jared? I'm drinking throughout every 'cast! ;)
You could always do a spin-off: "VineCast Smakdown RAW!!~!"
that sounds like AoD LIVE! (which doesn't exist....yet)
I wonder if jpark would be interested in something like that? It could be nightmarishly and brutally hilarious. :)
well yeah - or end up like a drawn out mini "MTV Yo Mama!" - either way... I know I'd enjoy them both.
"What are you talking about, Jared? I'm drinking throughout every 'cast! ;)"
So you're just a sweet drunk, then? :P
Something like that.
Wha? I don't need no stinkin libation to argue. I think...
People are jes scared of the V, admit it, you gutless metrosexuals!
its not that people fear the V, we're just... untrusting.
mwahahahaha
maniacal laughing isn't helping.
Depends which side of the equation you're lookin' at, Shawn. ;)
I'm none too sure on which end of what you're talking about... if this is innuendo, then... it just got really gross.
I'll try to listen tomorrow. Been busy x 1000.
Just got a chance to listen to this today.
I definitely can't wait for this election to be over and hopefully post election won't be like the last two or my head might explode.
We definitely need to start having some real meta discussions again . I have a lot of ideas floating around in my head but materializing them has proven to be tedious (to say the least). Plus moderating those articles is a real pain in the ass.
It'd be nice if we can focus on the future, instead of rehashing everything that has happened in the past for the billionth time. It gets real fricken old.
Err, I'm sort of a quiet guy.
A few ideas for future vinecasts:
This might be a good topic for a future vinecast: and the same is true with the meta topic raised about religious ads
and why not have Brian Ford and Tyler on to discuss the questions about column moderations?
also, have you ever considered having viners do dramatic readings of their vine articles?
Speaking of which, did I miss a Vinecast?
when in doubt blame the in-laws. reason #222 i need to get me one of them wives.
They're not worth the trouble, Scott.
