I've been hoping to push the Vinecast to higher levels of quality (and quantity) for a while now, and after the last episode, it's obvious that regardless how small our audience still is (though it IS growing slowly), we have a dedicated following, and they deserve a higher level of awesomeness than they've been getting.
I'm working on a new, more solid, production schedule, and I will be spending far more time preparing for each episode (and beating the regular guests into preparing a bit too...if I can find a stick long enough ;) ), but the biggest hurdle to getting to that higher level of awesomeness is simple: Money. The Vinecast itself costs very little to produce, but there are certain things that would seriously help to increase the quality of the podcast that are currently outside the budget (the budget being whatever loose change I can find in my couch cushions).
The addition that would would help the most for the least cost would be decent headphones for the major contributors to the podcast. This has become all the more of an issue since my main headset has slowly been dying for a couple weeks, and as of this afternoon, it's just plain dead. Thankfully I have backups, but I'm not sure what kind of quality I can get out of them.
Other things that would benefit the production quality of the podcast would be a mixing board, and other related audio equipment (sound cards, stand-alone mics, etc).
As the Vinecast is currently being run out of my pocket, I unfortunately cannot just go grab new equipment and send things out to the regular contributors (especially Viki, who is USUALLY playing the role of co-host), so I've gotta ask for some help.
If you have any used headsets, headphones, mics, or anything else you'd be willing to part with to aid the Vinecast, please drop me an email at email@example.com, or through the "contact this author" link on my column here on Newsvine.
If you'd prefer to donate a few dollars directly, we'd gladly take donations via paypal to that same address (firstname.lastname@example.org). We are also looking for sponsors, so if you want to discuss becoming a paid sponsor, drop us an email at that same address and we can work out the details.
And if nothing else, if you enjoy the Vinecast, clip your favourite episode's show notes to your column and help spread the word. The more the Newsvine community as a whole gets involved, the better the podcast can be.
Given the nature of the podcast right now, there is not much we can give in return other than appreciation (and ad time for sponsors, heh), though I am working on a deal to get some t-shirts and such done up soon, so I'll be keeping track of any donated equipment or straight donations and likely be sending out some Vinecast swag this summer at some point.
Thanks in advance to everyone out there who enjoys the Vinecast, whether or not you can (or want to) help out with used equipment or a few dollars. Don't forget to stop by the next recording (which should be announced later today). You won't want to miss it. Trust me.
It's time to move the Vinecast to the next level!
